Greater Tuckahoe Area Merchants’ Association
Scholarship Programs

The Greater Tuckahoe Area Merchants’ Association (G.T.A.M.A.) offers educational scholarships to full-time students who reside within the geographic boundaries of the Association and meet certain eligibility requirements.
Since 1998 the association has allocated approximately $220,000 to students from the Greater Tuckahoe Area.
Twenty students were honored on July 10, 2019 at the Upper Township Community Center on Rte 50 in Tuckahoe.
The Association has several awards programs with funding from several different private sources and through three main scholarship fund raising events (The Tour de Tuckahoe in May, The Tuckahoe River Canoe, Kayak and Poker Run in August and the Professional Craft Show in November).
Funding for high school seniors for the James and Martha Owens and the Alex and Virginia May Scholarships have been the mainstay for numerous years.  Monies allocated in a bequest in the will of James and Martha Owens started in the late 1980’s.  The May family provides funds in memory of their father and mother for a student attending a community college.
The B and G Scholarship is in the third year.  One male and one female high school senior that meets special criteria is selected as the recipient. The B and G scholarship is $2000 each payable at the end of the school year upon receiving a copy of the transcript plus the courses for the next semester.
Scholarships for two High School seniors are provided by Marjorie and Stoddard Bixby for students enrolled in one of the S.T.E.M. disciplines. The award is $1000.
This year one student received a certificate from the James and Martha Owens fund and will receive funds after successfully completing the first college semester and providing the scholarship committee a copy of their transcript.
Allocation of funds is based on individual and family volunteering efforts at G.T.A.M.A. events, financial need and the essay.
In Memory of President Roland Bonner a scholarship in his name has been created for an individual already enrolled in College. The scholarship of $1000 is for a full time student with a ”B” GPA.
The GTAMA Scholarship committee reviewed the applications and input from the scholarship sponsors and allocated funds for the 2019 scholarship year.

Note: The G.T.A.M.A. is a federally designated 501 (c) 3 nonprofit charitable organization.
