The Greater Tuckahoe Area Merchants’ Association presented scholarship awards to 12 students from the Greater Tuckahoe area at the monthly Association meeting on July 8, 2008 at the Station House in Tuckahoe. Seven students received notice of awards from the James and Martha Owens scholarship fund. The Owens established the scholarship fund about 11 years ago to recognize high school seniors from the Tuckahoe area who were continuing their education. This year’s recipients are Sarah Rogers, Melissa Terwilliger, Jordan Huber, Colin Norton, Erica Adams, Richard Gabor, and Geoffrey Stoop.
Additionally, the Greater Tuckahoe Area Merchants’ Association created a scholarship program for students who are already enrolled in college. The recipients for the new scholarship program are Amy Rogers, Lisa Eisele, Laura Morris, Lauren Rohrer and Stephanie Thompson.
A total of $12,000 is being awarded this year.
Funds for these programs come from the fund raising activities of the Association. Proceeds from the canoe race, Christmas in the country, and town dances are the primary funding sources.
